POLLY

Polly want a cracker?

Shhhhh. Always hungry! She hissed at the parrot. Feeding him small pieces of a ripe banana

Since they’d picked him up five months prior, he’d pretty much become the 3rd member of the family.

She’d been teaching him to speak, to comical effect.

When he’d first arrived, he’d been mistaken for a cockatoo.

She laughed at that.
Mistaking a parrot for a cockatoo.

There were times when the man she loved could leave her in hysterical laughter.

Her thoughts drifted to him.

When she’d arrived home last night. His face had been the first thing she’d seen. Smiling at her.

He can be an asshole at times. But he’s my asshole.

She smiled smugly. And felt warmth flood through her.

It’s his birthday today. And thank God I get paid soon. Though I’m unsure what he’d like. A pair of shorts maybe. Or a cap. He likes those. But she worried it was a hidden sign of balding.

Her cup had gone cold. Taking out the tea bag, it was covered in the remnants of undissolved powdered milk. I need the 3 in 1s one day she thought.

Maybe later.

Today though. She felt in a good mood. Motivation had been pretty hard to come by in recent times now it filled her to the brim.

Damn parrot. He’s’ screeching again.

I’ll probably teach him how to say asshole, she smiled to herself.
