Life and Icecream

Life, is better with ice cream.

I need icecream he thought wryly.

A ‘meh’ type of day needs ice cream and Meh.

He chuckled.

The house gate loomed and he siphoned the remnants of the energy drink in his right hand.

His left hand delicately sent off a flurry of messages off his phone before pocketing it.

He loved coming home. It was a nice place. Beautiful even.

A new place.

Nicer than that decrepit single room he’d spent the better part of last year in.

Quieter too. No more random drunks sleeping over.

“Good times, but I’m getting older.” He wondered what life would be like a decade from now.

Icecream better be part of my life then too, he mused.

He skipped past a muddy puddle.

The recent rains had washed away most of the brown on the fence walls.

Brown. A color he had always associated with the smell of earth and warmth.

A smile hinted at the corners of his mouth.

The annoyance from work quickly forgotten, he removed his shoes, scuffed from the day’s activities.

Stretching his toes, it felt good to be home.

Walking to fridge and tossing the now empty can with unerring accuracy to the bin on the corner, he reached for the freezer.

With the exception of a pack of chicken wings, there was nothing else.

Not even icecream.
